I’m Matty Jordan and I will teach you about Antarctica.
Work
One of the world’s most widely known Antarcticans, Matty Jordan is a globally recognised expert in Antarctic operations, construction and project management. He brings over six years of polar experience working on the design, management, and delivery of highly complex and logistically challenging projects.
He is a degree qualified civil and construction engineer and is a Project Manager for Antarctica New Zealand‘s Scott Base Redevelopment Project. The project aims to replace the existing infrastructure with a fit for purpose facility that will support scientific research for decades to come.
Personal Life
Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Matty now lives in Christchurch, New Zealand, with his partner and dog (whom he misses very much while he’s away). Beyond his professional commitments, he finds joy in hiking, playing golf, rock climbing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. Additionally, his love for adventure has taken him to over 40 countries across all seven continents. He will never drive past a garage sale.
Social Media
With a wealth of experience, he has become a veteran of eight Antarctic expeditions and over 400 days “on ice,” and has been dubbed by the media as “Antarctica’s biggest influencer.” He is one of the first people to ever deliver real time, day by day accounts of what it is like to winter over in Antarctica. Less than 1,000 people winter over annually in Antarctica, so his social media videos provide unprecedented access into what life in like in the world’s least hospitable environment.
He is one of very few people to accumulate over 1 million followers on social media, with content focusing almost entirely on what life is like on an Antarctica research station. His videos have been watched nearly half a billion times under the handle @mattykjordan.
Volunteering
Beyond his professional pursuits, Matty serves as a Board Director for the US-based Antarctican Society. He has also held the role of Co-Chair of the Canterbury Branch of the New Zealand Antarctic Society. Actively engaged in the local and international Antarctic community, Matty regularly visits schools and community groups to educate and inspire people about Antarctica.

“I have learned so much about Antarctica.”
Coming from such a hot country, I can’t even imagine what it’s like to live somewhere so cold. Thanks for showing me a part of the world that I’ll never get to visit.
